Back from Taiwan with exciting new perspectives!

After a rich and intense journey in Hong Kong, Pierre Séry and Laurent Mélikian continued their Asian tour with a four-day visit to Taiwan (July 26 to 30), meeting with key players in the local comics and publishing industry. This was part of their broader mission to build bridges between Asia and Europe through PLeaSe Comics Rights & Events.

Their journey began in Taipei, where they visited the Comic Exhibition hosted by the Chinese Animation and Comic Publishers Association (CCPA). With over 600,000 visitors across five days, it’s a major event on the Asian comics calendar. They had insightful discussions with Fanny Syu from CCPA and began exploring possible future collaborations around events and rights promotion in Europe.

In Taichung, they were welcomed by the team behind the ambitious National Comics Museum project. Still in its early stages, the museum aims to preserve Taiwan's comics heritage and elevate the medium’s status as an art form. The team at the museum consulted them on potential collaborations with France.

Back in Taipei, they had meetings with:

  • the team at Grayhawk Agency (who generously welcomed them during their annual holidays)

  • the cultural agency TAICCA (which plays a leading role in supporting Taiwan’s international comics presence)

  • Rex How, founder of Locus Publishing, and his editorial team

  • Gaea Books, one of Taiwan’s most respected publishers, to discuss international expansion strategies

  • artists, authors, curators, and friends who made each encounter a real pleasure

The highlight of the trip was the exceptional generosity and openness of their hosts. They were warmly received (sometimes even on weekends or during holidays), which speaks volumes about the shared desire to collaborate more closely with Europe.

Pierre and Laurent return from Taiwan with new ideas, promising leads, and a strong confirmation: there is real demand for a dedicated, trustworthy partner to help Asian comics professionals connect with the European market. That’s exactly what PLeaSe was created for.
